Bizarre

Okay - did anyone else find the "prayer" (and I use the term loosely) by Joseph Lowery during the Inauguration bizarre. He was going forth spewing social justice stuff and then he did the mellow yellow, brown stick around thing. My immediate thought was the "green" toilet rule: "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If's brown, flush it down." Obviously he wasn't refering to that but perhaps the old civil rights song: Big Bill Broonzy Black, Brown And White lyrics. Link here: http://www.lyricstime.com/big-bill-broonzy-black-brown-and-white-lyrics.html

Just weird. Here is exactly what he said:
“We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

Do we "white" people not embrace what is right? I'm thinking that Obama wants us to all work together regardless of race and this is what is said? Is this the tone he wants to set for the Presidency?

It will be a long 4 years.

Everyone has a right to their own political opinion and has a vote in who they want as President. While I have no idea what kind of job this President will do, he is now our President and I will respect him because of that, just like I did President Bush.

To wish his demise is horrific and not a very Christian view.

Lets hope his legacy is built on his ability to lead our country and not on his demise.

I support Obama but Rick Warren creeps me out. I did not like his prayer and also thought it was bizarre. How strange to break us all into colors and use that stupid ditty.

;) Jill. I have really never heard of Rick Warren before this however I thought his prayer was pretty benign and didn't really say much. I didn't mind Joseph Lowery’s prayer as it was also pretty benign but that racial stuff at the end was no appropriate. (in my opinion)

Debbie - I'm thinking that emotions ran high that day. The media seemed to forget that not everyone is excited for our new President. They were falling all over themselves but for some of us that day is a battle cry and we will be fighting for the things we hold dear. The unborn, homeschooling, Christian freedom, allowing business to prosper, protecting marriage, etc.

I was watching part of the prayer at work in the lunchroom---the part I notice most was that when Rick Warren led the congregation in the Lord's Prayer- all past Presidents and their families were participating/praying but Obama and his family did not. That bothered me.

What Lowery actually said was, "when black will not be asked to get back" not "give back" (as in the back of the bus).
I'm really torn. I'm very thankful that our country is "no longer" divided by color or race, but I can't help feeling that Obama was elected for the color of his skin, and not on the content of his character, which is exactly the opposite of what Dr. King would have wanted and what we should want as well.
I was completely unimpressed with Rick Warren's prayer. It almost seems like if you keep bringing up race, it divides us even more. People are human beings, made in the image of God regardless of where in the world their origins are or what the color of their skin is. I don't care that Obama is black, or bi-racial. I care about what kind of policies he's going to implement in the US.

You do not have to pray outloud to be heard.

I do agree that it was a highly emotional day not only for those that voted for our current President but for those that didn't as well.

Lets come together as Americans and support our current President.

We can respect the office, and give honor to whom honor is due, as he has been elected president, but that does not mean we must support decisions, such as socialism, that will hurt many people.

I hope he succeeds if he governs like Regan, but I hope that any socialistic policies fail quickly and dramatically, as they eventually do anyway. Look at the Soviet Union's economy and freedom level for an extreme end example.

I had to mute that particular part of the proceedings, annoyed me to much, I just felt sorry for God, He doesn't have a mute button.
