end of an era...

Molly has been begging me to cut her hair. I've ignored that request because she had amazing curls and I knew if I cut her hair they would never come back.

Finally after she woke up with extremely tangled hair (again) and cried when I tried to brush it (again), I relented. She loves it.

I got a hair cut as well. I went for a trim and ended up getting 6" off. Not by my choosing. I guess the guy didn't understand below shoulder level. Oh well, it will grow out.

Here's a picture. It's actually a semi-creepy picture now that I look at it.

schoolroom makeover...day: i have no idea

The computer arrived and is already claimed by Maddie. I guess I should have cleaned up the pencil shavings off the floor. Oops.

My new rug arrived and looks great at the back door.

It mimics the green on the accent wall in the schoolroom. Hey there's Maddie on the new computer. Hi Maddie, you had better be working on something important and not playing solitaire.

The chalkboard door is a big hit. I think it's funny that I ended up in the picture (can you spot me?)

I see Galactus, the rainbow bridge from Thor, Silver Surfer and Johnny Storm (Human Torch). Yes we are comic book nerds.

living room...

Linking:

My living room is pretty small and feels really small when all 8 of us are in there. But I like to think of it as cozy and I don't mind being squished on the couch with my kids.

Of course this is a work in progress.

I would like to get a new coffee table, I'm going to be redoing the black lamp and adding black ribbon to the white linen curtains. I would also like to redo the dropcloth slipcover on the chair. Well actually I would just like to replace the chair.

I'm still loving my Ikea rug and my Ektorp couch/sofa. I find it really comfortable.

The living room opens to the dining room so it does make it feel bigger.

detour...

A little detour from the schoolroom makeover as I'm waiting for the new computer and a trip to Ikea. So I decided to paint the back of the kitchen cabinets. They are open cabinets (on purpose not because we haven't bought cabinet doors yet) and were just boring white. So I got out the wall color (SW Rice Grain) and painted.

I would have liked to add some pattern but this was fast and free. I might stencil something later. Yeah right, who am I kidding. That will never happen.

I'm also looking at making a box valance for the boring window using one of these fabrics. I want to tie in the green of the living/dining room and schoolroom.

Don't mind Ava making lunch for our trip to the park. I rarely get a picture of my house without some kid in the room (and I like it that way).

Once I hit the fabric store I may come home with something completely different. It has been known to happen.

schoolroom makeover...day 2

On to day 2 of the makeover. These pictures are already somewhat out of date. I'll tell you why soon.

Hallway repainted to Pale Oak from Rice Grain. The kitchen is still Rice Grain and I like it there. A new green outdoor rug is coming for the back door. And I'll remember to re-install the switch plates (I'm so bad at remembering to do that)

I'm going to work on a new gallery stairway wall as soon as I can round up the million frames that are in the closet. I'm also going to recover that chair in something to match the green wall. And maybe paint some green on the mirror hanging over our copy machine/sewing table. I wish I could hide the copy machine but we use it all the time and there is no other place for it.

We'll be putting moulding around that built in and then I need to organize it. It holds our server and our printer as well as paper. I'm sure I can get it to look better. The giant floor air conditioner will go as soon as it's cool again.

We have a new computer coming to sit on the left side of the desk, hopefully new Ikea rolling chairs (to replace our $1.00 each broken Goodwill chairs) and I'm painting the outside of the green shelf white. (you can see painter's tape already up) The green shelf looks too heavy for the room so hopefully white will lighten it up. The inside will remain green though because I'm lazy.

So that's day 2.
